Good Vibes

I thank God that I’ve regained my energy level and good vibes. It was a slow start with a lack of energy this year, but I’m back to normal. It is true, your emotions and energy are directly affected by the people you surround yourself with. I’m thankful to be surrounded by the people that can bring me up when I’m feeling down, and I hope I can help others as I was helped when I needed it. Let’s share the Good Vibes.

My Favorite Phrase

You know you surround yourself with good people when all you need is a, “I’ll make it happen”. When they tell you those words, it’s no longer a maybe. It’s no longer a “we’ll see”. In fact, the how, and what is unnecessary – all they have to know is the when and where.

For someone who is as busy as I am, someone who values time, with no time for bullshit, the certainty of these individuals is worth gold.

Maybe? Ain’t nobody got time for that! ;)

Salsa Lessons Update

I decided to start attending Beginner Salsa lessons back in November. Due to the holidays and vacations, I wasn’t able to attend more than one class in December, but I’m happy that I’ve been able to attend every Wednesday this month.

The classes are medium sized, between 12-18 students, and there’s usually two instructors leading the class. The gender ratio is mostly even, however the last couple of times there’s been more guys than girls. It is diverse in both ethnicity and age, I’m guessing ages range between 20-55.

What makes it fun is that most of us are at the same level, and wanting to learn the sensual dance of salsa. So far I’ve learned the basics of salsa, such as the 8 count steps, always starting with the left foot, and how to lead my partner using hand motion. It’s been very exciting, and at times frustrating. Last week I left the studio frustrated because I couldn’t complete a 360 degree turn in 8 steps, while holding my partner. Trust me, it’s not as easy as it looks.

If someone would have asked me a year ago if I knew how to dance salsa, without doubt I would have answered with a confident yes. Reality is I just know how to move to the rhythm of the music, but I had no clue on how to properly lead my partner through turns and other movements. Being a Latino that has loved to dance all of his life, it’s very frustrating not being able to do what is supposed to be simple turns.

I know I’m definitely going to improve my skills this year, but it just can’t happen soon enough. For now, all I can do is practice.

Back to the gym after 22 days

I finally visited the Gym after being out for 22 days due to travels and the busy holiday schedule. During these 22 days I had absolutely no limit on bad carb foods and beer consumption :(

Since the last time I visited the gym I have gained 9 pounds, my muscles have lost firmness, and my endurance is weak.

As expected, this gym session was horrible. Horrible, as in I almost passed out after doing the Stair Master, I had to sit on the bench for about 5 minutes and remind myself to take deep breaths. Once I began to feel better, I just walked to the sauna for a few minutes to relax my muscles.

My goal for today was mainly to stimulate the muscles to let them know I’m back into action. I was able to complete several exercises for back, arms, legs, and shoulders.

I’m ready to get serious about my healthy living again!

Real niggas do what they wanna do, bitch niggas do what they can

Real niggas do what they wanna do, bitch niggas do what they can

– 2Pac

One of my favorites quotes from Tupac’s lyrics. There is so much truth in it. If you look past the slang and derogatory references, you’ll understand the meaning.

Real people accomplish whatever their dreams may be against all odds, bitch niggas (weak people) do what they are limited to.

Real niggas do what they wanna do, bitch niggas do what they can

13 Fundamental skills to be successful

I’m currently listening to the audiobook, How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big By Scott Adams, a book that gives a different prospective on goals and what it takes to be successful.

As I’m listening for the first time, I’m taking mental notes and digesting the interesting topics Scott Adams covers.

What recently got my attention is his list of fundamental skills that can help people become successful. He believes in the idea that when it comes to skills, quantity over quality is preferred – instead of mastering a few skills, you can just learn the basics of many. I do not intend to go into this topic, but I agree to a certain extend.

As he recited the list, I realized it has some of the skills I plan to work on during my leisure time. I think I will add all of these to my leisure time goals list.

Fundamental skills:

Accounting – You don’t have to be a business owner for this. We all work for money, we should all understand what’s coming in and out of our accounts, interest rates, etc.

Psychology – Understand people and make them understand you.

Basic design – Have an eye for design.  Know what looks good and what doesn’t.

Second language – A second language that makes sense. If you live in California, it makes sense to know both English and Spanish.

Persuasion – A powerful asset that must be used wisely.

Proper grammar – Your / You’re, I / Me, Were / Was. Know the difference.

Business writing – Be professional and to the point.

Public speaking – I can’t stress how important this is for a business owner and I definitely need a lot of work on this.

Conversation – Be able to maintain a conversation and connect with strangers. This is how networking is done.

Overcoming shyness – Sitting in a corner is not going to take you far.

Golf – Not a place to talk business, but a place for men to bond.

Technology hobby level – Know how to use a smartphone, at least.

Proper voice technique – Voice sends signals, let’s make sure we are sending the right one.

Yo no se mañana, English Lyrics

I’ve been hooked on Yo no se mañana since it first got my attention during a night out at La Bodeguita Del Medio, Puerto Vallarta. La Bodeguita Del Medio is a nice place to hang out, have Mojitos, genuine Cuban cigars, while listening to live salsa and bachata music.

I like both the rhythm and the lyrical content of Yo no se mañana. I decided to translate the song from Spanish to English since the message of the song has a good meaning. I did my best to translate the lyrics to English.

I don’t know if tomorrow

I don’t know if you, I don’t know if I
if we’ll continue to be like today
I don’t know if after sunrise, we’ll continue to feel the same thirst
Why think and assume, don’t ask what I don’t know… I don’t know
I don’t know where it will end, let the touch of our skin let us know
Why swear and promise something that is not in our control
I don’t know if it’s forever, don’t ask what time will decide

I don’t know if tomorrow, I don’t know if tomorrow
If we will be together, if the world will end
I don’t know if I will be for you, if you will be for me
If we will love or hate each other
I don’t know if tomorrow, I don’t know if tomorrow
You and me will be here

From a coffee to the sofa, from a button to everything else
We didn’t set rules or time, it was just you and I
Everything you see is me, don’t ask for more than what I can give

I don’t know if tomorrow, I don’t know if tomorrow
If we will be together, if the world will end
I don’t know if I will be for you, if you will be for me
If we will love or hate each other
I don’t know if tomorrow, I don’t know if tomorrow
You and me will be here

This life is like a book
Each page is a day lived
Let’s not run before we can walk
Tonight we are alive
Only this moment is reality

This life is a roulette that keeps on turning without stopping
I don’t know if you, I don’t if I, how will it end
If it will be worse, if it will be better
Let the heart decide what we feel

Tomorrow… I don’t know
Today we live something really special
No one can decide what will happen tomorrow, nothing is written
It’s just you and me
Let’s live the moment… let’s live
